Candle Care Guide
A great candle experience begins with proper candle care and maintenance. Here are some important burning tips for your candle care:
1. Prevent memory rings.
A candle should burn a minimum of 4 hours to liquefy the entire top layer of wax. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar or tumbler, it will create a “memory ring,” especially if this is the first time the candle is lit. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle.
2. Keep a wick centered and trimmed to ¼’’ at all times.
When wick trimming, you should always extinguish the flame, let the candle come to room temperature, and trim the wick to the length stated on your candle’s bottom label before relighting. We suggest trimming the wick every 4 hours of burn time.
3. Use a wick trimmer for a perfect trim.
Ensure that your wick trimmer is angled to get the proper wick length. This will prevent the wick from being cut too short, causing the candle to burn improperly. Discard the remnant wick before lighting.
4. Candles should not be burned for more than four hours at a time.
It is recommended that after burning for four hours, candles be extinguished, allowed to cool for two hours, and trimmed before relighting
.5. Follow the half inch rule.
Discontinue use of a candle when ½” of wax remains at the bottom of the jar. This will prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface or container itself. The glass can get hot on the bottom as the flame nears the base of the jar and most of the wax has been consumed
6. Fire Safety
Always burn candles well away from drafts, other heat sources, and anything flammable. Make sure burning candles are out of reach of children and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
7.Soot issues
If you are experiencing excess soot from your candle:
- Make sure to trim your wicks to 1/4'' before each lighting your of candle
- If you are still experiencing excess sooting, please trim your wick to 1/8’’
- Move candle away from any vents, fans, or air drafts
- Make sure you are not burning your candle longer than the recommended time of 3-4 hours
8.Cracked candle
To avoid a crack in your candle:
- Make sure your wicks are trimmed to ¼’’ before each lighting
- Make sure your wicks are centered at all times
- Do not exceed the recommended burn time of 3-4 hours
- Avoid drafts as they can cause wicks to veer off center, which can lead to glass overheating
9.Tunneling Issues
Tunneling is more apparent in the initial burn of the candle. Please burn your candle 2-3 times and make sure each burn time is in increments of 3-4 hours to allow wax to pool around the edges of the candle. If tunneling is still apparent, proceed to burn in 3-4 increments until candle self-corrects.
10. Wick issues or self-extinguishing flame:
If flame is self-extinguishing, please wait until wick is cool then loosen the wick fibers by twisting the wick with your fingers and relight.
Blow out the candle and ensure the wicks are completely extinguished. Use a paper towel to absorb some of the wax near the wicks of the candle. Safely dispose of the paper towel and ensure no debris is left in the wax. Relight your candle and note if the candle begins burning properly.
11.Fragrance performance issues
If your candle is not releasing a strong fragrance:
-
Make sure to burn your candle for 3-4 hours each time you light the candle. This will allow the wax and wick to heat properly and emit fragrance
-
Move your candle to another location to avoid drafts from vents or fans
-
Please note: single wick candles are meant to be used in smaller rooms to enhance fragrance performance. Double or triple wick candles work best in larger rooms
